Snowshoeing in Breckenridge
Breckenridge is well known for its world class mountain slopes, perfect for skiing and snowboarding. But there are plenty more you can do in the snow that doesn’t involve skis or snowboards. Breckenridge has lots of perfect quaint trails perfect for snowshoeing. Snowshoeing is simply walking in the snow, and is virtually inexpensive. It is one of the best ways to burn calories and keep healthy without having to exert too much. You can enjoy it alone or have marvelous fun with some friends. For people who wants to spend every waking moment in the snow when having a break from skiing or snowboarding, this is a perfect alternative. Snowshoeing has been around for hundreds of years and is becoming the fastest growing popular sport to do for all ages.
Snow shoeing doesn’t require the experience you’ve had you’ve had years to practice, walking. You can choose to do this alone, with a few friends, or a whole lot of people. It is a perfect activity to keep yourself moving during the winter season without requiring you to exert too much muscle effort and is very inexpensive. The only thing it requires you to have is the right shoe gear a great destination, maybe a little music and a good conversation.
A great way to explore the best snow shoe covered Breckenridge backyard is to have a fine pair of snowshoes, poles and water to keep hydrated. You can get snowshoes in one of the many sports shop in Breckenridge but you will be able to rent one for the day, just be sure to get the right fit for your size and weight. Make sure to bring your poles to help yourself maneuver in the snow, suit up with the warmest and most comfortable clothing you have. If you’re planning on staying out a bit longer, make sure to bring extra clothes because you might want to shed some of the heavy clothing you have on when you get yourself going, don’t ever go out without bringing snacks and something to drink, it’s a light activity but you will be surprised when you’ll need food to keep your energy up. For first timers, make sure to stay in areas with low elevation you can go to higher altitude when you get used to the thin mountain air. If you’re going with your friends or family, plan a picnic. You will most definitely find a good picnic spot.
You can choose your adventure for the day, Breckenridge Nordic Ski Center hosts 30 km. of trails for all levels of snowshoeing. Right on the Breckenridge free bus route, near Peak 8 Base on Ski Hill Road, is one great trail you should consider taking. Equipment rental and guided tours are available. Similarly, Gold Run Nordic Center (off Tiger Run Road at the Breckenridge Golf Course) and Frisco Nordic Center (on Hwy. 9) also offer expansive terrain for varying skill levels and equipment rental. For first timers, it is recommended to take a guided tour; you don’t want to get lost in your first snowshoeing exploration. Guides can talk you through the very basic requirements of snowshoeing. There are hundreds of great trails in Breckenridge for snowshoeing, chances are, there is one around the place you’re staying in, ask around shop owners or locals and they are sure to point you to a great spot; always make sure to stay in your trail.
Snowshoeing is one of the best activities to enjoy nature with your family, kids, grandma and grandpa, in short a great sport for all ages. It’s easy and has a relaxing nature to it. You will most definitely find the experience peaceful. Make sure to bring your camera with you, you would want to capture the snowy pine trees and the occasional mountain animals.
