Keep Your Ski or Snowboard in Top Condition With These Waxing & Tuning Guidelines
Millions of people around the world delight in skiing and snowboarding. When it comes to the topic of care with regards to waxing and tuning, it stands to reason that you would come across scads of information on the Internet on the topics. Because you are looking online, you'll find many deviations in the value and precision of that particular information. Therefore we constantly suggest that you read from a range of dependable and convincing resources when you're doing your investigating. For that reason, we're here to share with you some solid tuning and waxing guidelines for ski and snowboard so you'll get all that you can out of your sport.
Having a good edge and wax job on your skis is a good idea for various reasons. This important for safety as well as performance because things like dull edges can cause you to fall. You could be in for a disappointing ride with dull ski edges because they won't grip properly, especially on ice. You can spend a lot of time falling and getting back up if your skis don't grip. Waxing your skis isn't just about getting a good wax job but also about being sure to use the appropriate wax for your ski conditions. Temperatures can be a big factor, as well. You can be slowed down by the wax on your skis if it is too cold out for what you used. When making your plans, you should consider all of these factors.
Hot waxing is always preferable, and once you learn how to do it, it's not very hard. A digital iron adjusted to 248 degrees is ideal. However, you can do the job without a digital iron also. Start off with a low temperature and wait until the wax starts to melt.
Gradually turn the dial up on the iron, but stop when contact with the iron causes the wax to smoke. Be sure to make the change in temperature gradual. So, when the wax smokes, then you'll want to slightly decrease the temperature so the wax no longer smokes. That will put your non-digital waxing iron at about 248 degrees, and you'll be ready to rock and roll with your waxing.
Get the old wax off before you begin. Get a good scraper to do this he best way possible. The petroleum products in man made snow will leave a residue on your skis that you will need to remove. This residue will slow you down not make you go faster. There are times on man made snow that you will feel like you just hit a pile of dirt. So for this reason be sure to remove as much as you can then use a solvent and cloth to get the rest.
Keeping your skis and boards tuned is an important part of participating in winter sports.
Learning how to tune and maintain your gear will keep you safer, and it will mean your equipment lasts longer. If you want to take your winter sports seriously, this is something worth learning about. When you start out, you can rely to some extent on the pros who work in shops for advice, but as you get more experienced you'll learn to trust your own instincts. Only you can decide how to care for your own equipment. If you want to be safe and excel at skiing or boarding, you'll want to keep your equipment in top condition.

Long skis? short ski?
I want to buy skis i would say i am intermediate but i usually rent.. which is getting expensive..
I am 20 years old 5'2 and about 115 lbs.. most charts say about 142 cm.. but people say long skiis are better? and others short? whats the difference besides the length..
It depends on what you are looking for. Short skis are better for turning, long skis are more stable and are faster. It is also two completely different styles, short skis are more modern, they are designed to be turned on their edges and to be skied about shoulder width apart, while long skis are more old school, they are designed to be skied by rotation of the hip from side to side, not a rolling of the ankle from edge to edge like a short ski, and they are generally skied with your ankles almost touching. As a more modern skier, and a racer, I would suggest going with the 142 cm. Some other things you will want to look at is the type of ski you buy, as a recreational skier I would suggest a pair of twin tips just because they are pretty forgiving, and they give you an excuse to do stupid stuff like terrain parks. Most racers that I know ski on twin tips when they aren't training. A brand that I would suggest is Fischer, but K2 is alright as well.
