Does A Homemade Battery Desulfator Work For Reconditioning Batteries?
What Is A Battery Desulfator?
A desulfator is a circuit which is used to restore weak sulfated Bosch battery to life. After exposing the weak sulfated battery to the circuit, the batteries will become like new. Sulfation happens when a certain chemical reaction occurs during discharge. The lead and the lead dioxide formation during discharge changes into lead sulfate. The lead sulfate layer then accumulates over time since it does not dissolve in the battery's water. Thus, the layer creates an insulation between the tiles and electrolyte - lowering the charge that your battery creates. Lead sulfate also forms when the battery is forced to rest for several months. When a 12 volt lead-acid battery stays stagnant with a voltage below 12.3 volts, sulfur crystals will likely begin to form on the lead plates. The crystal formation increases the internal resistance which may make it useless.
How Does A Homemade Battery Desulfator work?
Battery desulfators send high frequency pulses through the Black & Decker power tool battery and create a sound that will break up the crystals or lead sulfate formation. How long it will take to break the crystals will depend on the kind of battery is being desulfated. However, certain precautions should be considered when desulfating batteries. They have the capacity to burst into flames or can spit and spray its electrolytes around, so proper safety measures should be taken. Maintenance is somewhat dangerous due to the sulfuric acid content (where the sulfuric crystals come from) is highly corrosive. When desulfating, make sure you are in an open area. Make sure that you Wear protective clothing, eye goggles and if possible, splash shields.
It is important to know that desulfation will not bring batteries with shorted cells and worn out plates back to its normal condition. However, a desulfator is a useful tool to people who depend on battery storage for power.
Frequency pulse conditioning is used in desulfating to make sure that only the sulfate crystals are affected and that the battery does not overheat. The desulfation may take days or weeks during which time the battery must be charged in parallel with the desulfator. The battery will end up reconditioned and fully charged after the desulfation.
You may use Altoids cans for building your homemade AEG tool battery desulfator for easy handling. To do this, affix a piece of perf-board into the bottom of the Altoids can. Set a strip of adhesive copper foil onto the bottom edge of the board to act as ground bus. You need two switches, two resistors, two pots, one field-effect transistor, and one light-emitting diode onto the perf-board. Affix insulation between the metal can and the circuitry of the desulfator. You also need to drill holes into the can for the wires and ventilation. A solder connects the wires into the electrolytic capacitors. Use output leads and clips to connect the battery desulfator to the battery. Now, that you are able to make your own battery sulfator, you will no longer have difficulty to restore to life your dead batteries. This way you are able to save hundreds with only few dollars. There are guides or videos that can help you with the step by step creation of a homemade battery desulfator, and when you have it ready, you can now start reconditioning batteries.

What is the most random dream you've had?
I once had a dream where my family was Jewish and the nazis invaded my house. I was out on the front lawn and saw a chubby, short, women nazi who was wearing a silver foil space-like suit and big black goggles. She lifted up her goggles at me and said "Hello Kirsten, I'm here to getcha!" and it turned out to be my elementary principal! Lol it was during our 6th grade unit on WWII and the Jews.

Me and 4 friends had somehow got ahold of a very rare ruby. We had to run away from a gang of nondescript people. We were running down a hill of sand and came to a sea of milk. We all had to swim around the corner to a restaurant floating in the milk. The only way we could get on the dock leading to the restaurant was to throw each other to catch a bag of flour and swing on. I got across but no one else did. Then all of a sudden I was in the mall running away from the gang of people. I ended up getting caught, but I knew the man who caught me. So he told me to go and he got shot saving my life.
The end.
This by the way was one of the most detailed dreams I have ever had.
